With a refresh planned for 2019, the 2018 MINI Cooper has just a few new features added to the 2017 model. Here's what to expect from both versions if you're shopping for a peppy convertible this year.

Performance

Agility is one of the primary draws of the MINI brand and the Cooper Convertible delivers with sharp, precise steering and outstanding control. Both the 2017 and 2018 models of this MINI Cooper have three engine options: a 132-hp turbocharged three-cylinder that gets an EPA-estimated 28/34 city/highway miles per gallon and either a 189-hp or 228-hp turbo-four, each of which gets 23/32 city/highway mpg. All three are paired with a six-speed manual, but you can upgrade to a six-speed automatic if you prefer.

Appearance

No appearance changes have been made to the MINI Cooper Convertible between the 2017 and 2018 model years. The Convertible is a two-door model that comes in three trim levels and comfortably seats four passengers. Those who prefer to drive a hardtop can choose from either a two-door or four-door model, both of which can be upgraded with a panoramic moonroof. Standard appointments include synthetic leather upholstery.

Features

The 2018 MINI Cooper Convertible boasts two new standard safety features: a rearview camera and rear parking sensors. The base model of both the 2017 and 2018 Cooper Convertible includes automatic climate control, a 6.5-inch touchscreen infotainment system with smartphone integration, Bluetooth and USB connectivity, a six-speaker stereo, and automatic headlights and windshield wipers.
